Who was Wilt Chamberlain?
Wilt Chamberlain was born in Philadelphia in 1936. He played basketball at Overbrook High School. Chamberlain was sought after by many universities due to his 7 foot stature.
Wilt attended University of Kansas and played there for 2 years. He then played for the Harlem Globetrotters for a year before entering the NBA.
Chamberlain went to the NBA in 1959 and played for the Philadelphia Warriors. The Team then moved to San Francisco. In 1965, Chamberlain moved back to Philadelphia to play for the 76ers. He finished his career with the Lakers and won 2 NBA championships.
He had an awesome rivalry with Bill Russell who played for the Boston Celtics. Both of them helped popularize basketball as the sport it is today.
Why are his cards so valuable?
Wilt Chamberlain was a dominant force in the NBA. He even managed to score 100 points in one game! That is an amazing feat that has still not gotten broken until this day.
He also held the record for most points scored in a career until Kareem Abdul-Jabbar broke it. Chamberlain also managed to never foul out of an NBA game in his entire career.
His cards have lots of value because he played back in the 1960s. In this time, not too many cards got produced (let alone in mint condition). Finding real Wilt Chamberlain cards is tough. Make sure you are certain they are genuine before you buy.
